what i've learned so far about serving my mission:

(1)- what to do to prepare for mission?
Gain a full desire to serve and lose yourself in the service of others as the savior has. Have a true testimony of Heavenly Father, the Holy Ghost and Joseph Smith.

(2)- girls serving missions?
marriage and children are the first primary roles of women but if marriage is poseponed and inspiration declares a mission is right, then the church encourages it. sister missionaries are highly effective and seem to have more patience and sensitivity to the spirit.

(3)- difficult companions?
we must learn to live with different ppl of the same faith. a mission is like life in minature therefore instead of running from problems you must learn to solve them in order to give you clarity, help you be more tolerant and help you in all other problems with life.

(4)- common frustrations or difficulties?
being homesick. having to shift drastically in an unknown place. only writing home once a week in order to dedicate a full six days to the gospel and study. learning to serve a mission with staying worthy and obeying rules to not swim, no dating, no riding motorcycles, and so forth (which i feel will be very difficult yet it is for the missioniaries own spiritual protection. )

(5)- mission difficult?
a mission is truly tough. weaknesses become weaker on your mission and strengths become stronger. satan is always looking to find weaknesses to discourage or make fearful. recognize any weakness or problem you find then make sure to fix it.

(6)-letters to or from home?
letters can break you down or build you up on your mission. you and those writing you must mainly focus on the good that is coming from your mission and encourage you to tread on with faith. romantic letters or ones that distract the spirit will effect you poorly. make sure to stay in touch with those that love and support you being on your mission.

(7)-daily schedule?
6 am to 7:30 am- wake up, get in right state of mind, clean, get ready for the day, eat, pray.
7:30 - 9:00 am - joint study at table together, review flannelboard approach, review door to door dialogue.
9:30 am to 11:30- leave apartment on time, door-to-door and look up referrals.
have lunch then more door-to-door and referrals til 5:00 pm.
5:00pm - back to apartment for evening meal
6:30pm - 9:00 - go to appointments to teach families.
10:30pm- be in bed and sleep 7 and half hours to wake up at six again.

(8)- development of missionary work?
Lord has given us devine injuncture to teach the gospel to all kindreds tongues races and peoples. thats what were about. search for honest in heart and be sensitive to spirit in order to have discerning awareness of those who wants to truly here the gospel.

(9)- adjusting to missions or returning from them?
the returned find that their rosy missionary life isnt the same as that of the rest of the world they return to. a mission is like being on a spiritual plane. the world never seems to change much nor the ppl left behind yet the missionary themselves are highly effected, better, matured, happy and in a much more peacful and self controlled state of mind.
they are better prepared to meet lifes challenges. bettered for their future familes and as a companion and parent. their love for the gospel is second to none. many have changed vocational plans. their sights of all things are more raised and strengthened as a result of their mission experiences. they are much more capable of responding to many problems in the years ahead with maturity and calmness that many people see as remarkable. they have grown in more areas that point them ahead of their peers with certain skills and application of eternal truths. they are blessed and their families and friends that stay in touch with them are all strongly blessed as well.

(10)- most rewarding part of a mission? ( this is my favorite )

*** seeing the scores and scores of missionaries who have the same goal and have found both themselves and the Lord. seeing what missionaries can do with their knowledge and testimony in reaching others who arent members of the Church. its being able to touch people in their homes with tears of joy streaking their faces, praising & thanking the Church and the missionaries for being a part of this. For feeling like they were lost and now they have found their way. its something you dont measure in dollars or pay envelopes or high positions or anything else. it all boils down to simply sharing what you know in a sincere way so that people can discover for themselves, with the help of the lord, that its true. God does live. Jesus is our savior who took upon himself all the pains and afflictions of everyone in the world. He has given us tools to stand as lights of the world in darkness. He has given us life here to be tested and to grow. He has given us all we need to know to make it back to him to dwell in happiness with our families forever. each of us are indebted to our father in heaven for the life and blessings hes given us. all of us in the church are, in very fact, his trusted servants - of that none of you need to be doubtful for one second. all of us are called to preach the true gospel- daily, throughout life, in word and deed - to bring joy and peace to all who desire it. his truth and his love will forever shine forth and break through the cracks of darkness and confusion. it is our duty to see that we fulfill that with nobility. each step taken throughtout the missionaries day is one more step to saving a family.

I bare testimony of these things to be true and am so grateful to have this opportunity. im learning more each day. i meet with the bishop tonight at 8. I start preparing TODAY!

love, ash
